Hey Jen,
Happy Birthday! I wish my dad had done something like this to my mom when she turned 40. Thanks for being a good person to my family. Can't wait to see you next week!!

Love,
Ben Haacke

Happy Birthday!

You are remarkable. You are an influence for good far beyond what you could ever know. You are a mover of mountains, a rock-solid friend and loyal, kind, people-builder. You are NOT my twin, regardless of similar glasses our freshman year, but you are, in so many ways, my sister. I cannot bear to imagine my life without you and your steady, humorous, gentle influence.
Love you like crazy. Looking forward to the next 40!

Happy 40th! I so wanted to type something witty and eloquent (perhaps a poem) to adequately describe and honor what a wonderful woman you are, but alas, my 42-yr-old brain can't do that anymore. I realized I was doomed when I came up with dorky phrases such as:

Happy Happy Birthday Wonderful Jen!
Cuz of you ther'll be no bankruptcy for White Hen...

and

I'm so glad that I've finally discerned,
someone as psychotic as me where food storage is concerned...

and

Jen I realize that it is you that I adore,
even though there are always stinky diapers lined up at your side door...

So I'll just have to be brief, honest and to the point - I think you are wonderful!
Happy, Happy Birthday.

Jen,

I am so glad you are a part of our family. I hope you have a wonderful birthday and wish we could celebrate with you in-person, but look forward to spending Thanksgiving with you and your family. Happy 40th!

Jen,
Happy Birthday! I hope that you have a fabulous party! I wish that we could be there to celebrate with you tonight. I miss you and your family so much. I so wish that we lived nearer each other so I could get to know you the way all your friends do. But, I'll take what I can get. I always enjoy the times when we can just sit and talk (of course with little people laughing and yelling in the background). I'm so glad that we're family!

Much love to you always,
Steffani

Dearest Jen!

How mortifying to have found this just a few days too late! Here's how it happened: it's the day after Thanksgiving and I am cleaning up and once again wishing I had just one more of those Wedgwood plates so I could seat more people properly. So I troll around on ebay and as I do I pass by an offering for Gold Florentine. And I think, did Jen ever get her set? And does she hate that she has to wash it by hand or does it allow a moment of joy caressing it? And where is she? still in Boston? So since The Husband is so slow getting ready to go to the Christmas tree farm and the boys are happily playing (gasp!!) I google her. And here you are!! Turning 40 -- which can't be right because then I would be...older.

Happy Birthday, my dear. I'm so delighted to see your gorgeous kids (Mike! What happened to your hair?! ;) -- j.k., the only reason you can't see mine is the artifice of my hairdresser). Glad to see you've been back to Rome. I haven't been to Europe since I was 3 mo pregnant with the 1st boy. sigh. So many questions. Did you ever finish that paper for Soucek? I never finished the diss. (big surprise -- the job was far more interesting and then came the kids...)

Strange. The only story I can come up with at the moment is bleaching the freaky dark hair on your arm after the cast came off and your wedding was only weeks away. Mildly entertaining but hardly illuminating. Oh well. Thanks for sharing the apt with me -- it was decidedly the only decorated place I had my entire time in NYC.

All the best,
Jen (somehow my husband has mutated me into a Jen. go figure) Helvey
